Eleven aliens arrested in Mombasa were yesterday arraigned in a court and charged for failing to stay at a designated area contrary to section 31(2) of the refugee Act 2021.
The particulars being that on September 16, this year the eleven were found and arrested by Transnational Organized Crime unit officers while hiding in three rental rooms in a house at Dudus village in Likoni sub-county within Mombasa county following a tip off from members of the public.
Their defense council , Miss.Cindi Adundo, from Refugee Consortium of Kenya (RCK) told the court that all suspects were holders of refugee identity cards.
The prosecution, through prosecutor Victor Simbi told the court that though it was unlawful for refugees to move from designated areas without moving passes, the law was not clear on the penalty against the offense.
All the suspects who appeared before Mombasa resident magistrate, Hon. Rita Orora pleaded guilty to the charges.
