Three men were yesterday charged for attempting to bribe a Kenya Revenue Authority Officer investigating a case against them.
Philip Muigai Nduati, Boniface Aggrey Ouma Omondi and Isaac Wanaloba Keyari who appeared before Mombasa Chief Magistrate, Alex Ithuku, are accused of giving a bribe contrary to section 5(1) (a) of the bribery Act No.47 of 2016.
The three suspects are said to have on September 2,2021 at Jawabu restaurant in Ganjoni area within Mombasa county offered Margret Awino Ongale over 1.6 Million as a financial benefit with an intent that, in consequences she would influence the outcome of an investigation she was carrying out to their favor.
Nduati and Keyari faced a second count of Conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption Contrary to section 47A (3) of the Anti-corruption and economic crimes Act, 2003.
The particulars being that on September 2, 2021 at Jawabu restaurant in Ganjoni area within Mombasa county, they jointly conspired to commit an offense of corruption, namely giving a bribe to Margret Awino Ongale, a police officer attached to the Kenya Revenue Authority.
Keyari pleaded not guilty to the charges.
They were released on a 1 million bond each with one surety, or kshs.500,000 cash bail.
