Police in Likoni, Mombasa county, yesterday netted over 560 liters of illicit brew and arrested three suspects.

The three, two men and a woman, were arrested in a Chang'aa manufacturing den in a residential house at Pungu villa area in Likoni sub-county. Mombasa County.

The impromptu afternoon raid was mounted by a multi-sectoral team comprising of regular and administration police, representatives from the peace committee, area senior assistant chief, members from community policing, and village elders

Likoni sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Mathew Wambugu who was leading the operation against illicit brew and drugs said 560 liters of chang'aa, chang'aa Distilling apparatus,, six cooking gases, five jerricans filled with ethanol, eight water tanks, empty bottles, six creates of assorted brew among other chang'aa Distilling equipment's were recovered.

The officers also confiscated over 520 liters of ‘kangara’, which is one of the ingredients used in manufacturing chang'aa.

The operation was conducted at a changaa den believed to be owned by one, Dafina Raison aka "mama kuku," where Bruvian Luka, Bonface Andagwa and Robina Nyamboga were arrested, The owner escaped the police dragnet.

Likoni sub-county Police Commander Geoffrey Ruheni said those arrested will be arraigned once investigations are complete.

During the raid, Ruheni said the 520 liters of 'kangara' recovered were destroyed, and over 560 liters of chang’aa were retained to serve as exhibit when the suspects are arraigned in court.

Ruheni urged members of the public to assist law enforcers in the fight against illicit brew by giving information that would lead to the arrest of those who engage in the practice within their vicinities.

This multi-agency operation came weeks after Dafina accused DCI officers of allegedly extorting money from her to allow her business' operation in yet another raid.
